Expert advice on presence

The expert advice is always to show presence as an official, but we don't often know how to get it or display it. The experts also tell you to be a sponge early in your career, but a sponge for what? And from whom?

Certainly it would be nice to shadow some NBA referees for two or three weeks each year, follow them everywhere they go, listen to everything they say, and be on the court with them through four or five ball games — just to learn first hand how the experts really do their job.
