The stop sign
t has been in use for decades, and most coaches know what it means. When the hand indicates "STOP," — and especially if there is something verbal offered with it — you have warned the coach; and the warning applies on behalf of the whole officiating crew. It should be the last of your efforts before you give a technical foul.
An important point to remember: Be aware of "STOP" signs your partner(s) flash to the coaches. When you get back to a coach who's already been shusshed, let him know you're aware of the situation: "Coach, I saw Ray...."
