Be Reticent in Your Criticism

ow do you know if you have the correct (I almost said right, which has other connotations) attitude about officials and officiating? Here’s one indication. Does your pride cause you to criticize or praise others outwardly?

When it is a friend, or when you REALLY respect someone as an official (let’s call him Joe, but Debbie will also work), you’ll do anything for him (her), won’t you? If someone criticizes Joe, you stand up for him. You defend Joe. You provide an excuse — a justified excuse — for why Joe is who he is or officiates the way he does.
