ometimes the "advice" one gives does not carry its own argument for its validity. Consequently, it must be explained. Calling fouls on players who put other players on the floor is one of those situations that goes right to the heart of our own philosophy of what is best for the players and the game of basketball.
If you’re trained this way
Training is a continual process that changes our viewpoints on things in the game. Early in our officiating careers, we may have learned something one way but then changed as we became more experienced. In other instances, we changed because our assignor or commissioner or supervisor of officials said: “Do it this way!” So we do it his way even though we really disagree, primarily because it does not fit our philosophy.
