General Rules Concepts of the National Federation

yle McNeely has been on the NF Baseball Rules Committee for over 15 years. He wrote something for Officiating.com that I thought some of you should see, even if you don’t regularly read baseball pieces.

Having called basketball, baseball, and volleyball according to FED rules, I have to admit that I have wondered at times why certain rules were adopted, changed, and generally differed from what is known elsewhere as “the rules” of that sport. We all know that the FED rules are different in some way, and we question why. Why, for example, are high school baseball games not played according to Major League Baseball rules? When changes are made, why do they not look more like and become standardized like the rules we favor?
