In our previous example, our lead made the foul call. Both officials made eye contact, and our lead pointed down to the ground, indicating that a "spot" throw-in was to follow and where the ball was to be put in play. Our trail "freezes his eyes" and observes all of the players on the court. He is now in charge, as our calling official hustles to the table to report the foul.
A truism, but important nevertheless: Never turn your back on the players!

Reporting to the table
Our lead hustles to the table without running through or among the players. He simply moves around the perimeter of the players. As he is doing so, he takes a quick glance at the bench areas.
The reporting area is anywhere on the table-side of the basket, between the top of the key areas and six feet or so off the sideline. Avoid getting too close to the bench areas.
