According to Alex Hitchens, consultant in the field of human relationships, it’s important to understand signals. As if to illustrate his point, not long into Hitch, one of my favorite movies of 2005, he engages Sara Melas in this exchange:

Hitch: Now, on the one hand, it is very difficult for a man to even speak to someone who looks like you. But, on the other hand, should that be your problem?

Sara: So life's kind of hard all around.
