Oh, what a tangled web we weave

t's halftime and Spanish Fork is down by 10. As they break the huddle to start the third quarter, their point guard says to you with a wry smile: "We're going to try something; don't say anything."

While the thrower heads opposite the table, her teammates set up — at the wrong end of the court. Payson, not noticing the tactic sets up to defend — also at the wrong end of the court.

Your partner sounds his whistle, bounces the ball to the thrower, and your smiling point guard breaks down court — to the right end. She gets the inbounds pass and makes an uncontested lay-up. Two easy points.

Double, double, toil, and trouble

This misdirection play exploits the confusion of switching ends. But the play didn't exist in the earliest days of basketball. It wasn't until 1894 that teams were required to change ends at half time.
