Lesson 1: Coaches are like earthquakes.

uring any game there is a natural tension between coaches and officials. If that tension cannot be released, it builds. The result is often some kind of seismic event. Let coaches talk; acknowledge them. If they think you’re not listening, they can become frustrated. A simple "I hear you, Coach" tells him you’ve heard what he’s saying without indicating whether you agree. Of course, there are limits. If a coach is approaching your line, warn him. If he crosses it, whack him.
